At Sims Metal Management, our ultimate responsibility is providing a safe working environment and ensuring that all of our employees go home to their families at the end of the day in the same condition they arrived. We are not satisfied at being just the industry leader in safety; instead the company is striving to be accident free.

Our Safety Goals & Priorities

Sims Metal Management is focused on improving its safety record across all divisions and subsidiaries. The Company’s commitment and dedication towards safety practices led us to take several substantial steps to improve safety and operational practices across all of our operations, including:

• Contracting DuPont Safety Resources to analyze all processes and facilities in our North American metals operations and Worldwide electronics recycling operations.
• Retaining DuPont Safety Resources to assist us in building a world class safety culture across Sims Metal Management.
• Evaluating the risks associated with our work practices and developing safety best practices for Sims Metal Management’s operations.
• Instituting an integrated incident reporting and management system to ensure that we learn from our mistakes and improve the effectiveness of the Company’s prevention efforts.
• Continuing to build upon our proprietary SHEC (Safety, Health, Environment & Community) training program.
• Designing facilities in a fashion that assures safety and maximizes SHEC performance. Sims Metal Management does this through its Design for SHEC policy.
• Implementation of a program of observation behavioral audits focused on employee enhanced safety performance.
