Safety, Health, Environment & Community (SHEC)
Many companies maintain an environmental, health and safety policy, but Sims Metal Management maintains a Safety, Health, Environment and Community (SHEC) policy, with specially trained SHEC professionals to assist in the execution of these guiding principals and policies. The inclusion of Community into our program and policy highlights the efforts the Company makes to be a responsible corporate citizen, socially focused and a respectful neighbor.
The North American SHEC Policy is guided by six basic principals:
- There is no such thing as an accident.
- Efforts in SHEC will yield results in SHEC.
- Every employee is accountable for his/her SHEC performance.
- SHEC-responsible conduct is a condition of employment.
- SHEC is also a line management responsibility.
- All employees are obligated to stop or refuse to perform a task if it cannot be performed safely or in compliance with SHEC requirements.
All employees are expected to incorporate these principals into their daily activities.
